The Government hospitals were instructed to accept old currency notes in lieu of medical services. However, Private hospitals have seen a drop in the demand for their services as a larger section of their business was due to the treatment of foreign individuals. The inability of the foreigners exchange foreign currency has crippled sections of the healthcare sector.
As a result, most private hospitals in Kolkata have introduced mobile ATM Countersand started accepting cheque payments. Payments in foreign currency have also increased since demonetization.
Hospitals that have limited the use of cashless payments or plastic money have witnessed a downfall in the number of national and international patients.
